Moffat Dale is
a classic U shaped valley. Some ancient glacier travelling
from NE to SW carved its way through these hills.
Smaller glaciers, travelling from NW to SE, cut small side
valleys or glens. At the northern end, the valley starts
quite narrow and widens to the souithern end. |

Blackhope Glen above and Carrifran Glen below, are two of these side
valleys. Grey Mare'sTail waterfall, shown below, is in the
third valley.
Here the larger glacier cut a deeper path and created a
hanging valley. |
